These images were originally commission and published in Vette Magazine in the early 90 as center spread posters. Each full-color print shown below measures 11 x 17 and is only $24.99.
1956 Corvette "A Tough Guy At Last!"
1956 saw the first restyling of the Corvette. Dismal sales and fierce competition from Ford's Thunderbird had the fiberglass Chevy on the ropes. The restyled Corvette picked up on some of the styling cues from the Mercedes 300SL, but no one noticed or cared. The new Vette was lean and about to become mean with the introduction of the Fuel Injected 283 in 1957.

"Chevy's Cobra Killer"
This was the ultimate "could have been" Corvette. Had GM not pulled the plug on Duntov's 2,100 pound, tube framed, 500 horsepower Corvette racer, Shelby's Cobras would have had serious competition. But it wasn't meant to be and only five grand Sports were built. Fortunately for Corvette lovers, all five Grand Sport Corvettes have been lovingly restored to better than original condition.

The Fuelie option left the Corvette Land after 1965. Duntov always preferred light-weight, high revving, small engines over the big-block power plants. The LT-1 option gave Corvette buyers the grunt of the old fuel injected Vettes, but without the maintenance hassles. The solid-lifter 350 engine provided almost the same power-to-weight ratio as a big-block but was a much more balanced road machine.

"King of the Hill"
This was the most sophisticated of all of the C4 Corvettes. The Mercury Marine made, 350 cid, double-overhead cam engine cranked out an amazing 370 net horsepower (about 450 to 475 hp gross horsepower if calculated like engines in the olden days). The suspension was beefed up and larger wheels and tires were used to handle the added power. The back end of the car's body panels were actually wider to accommodate the bigger tires. But this kind of exotica wasn't cheap. The ZR-1 option package coast $27,016 ON TOP OF the $31,979 base price of the '90 Corvette!
