The 1963 Grand Sport Corvette was arguably the ultimate could have been Corvette. Zora Arkus-Duntov wanted to build a light weight Corvette to take on the Shelby Cobras. The original version of the Grand Sport didnt look that much different from the new 63 production Corvette. But very quickly that car was given cool raced stuff such as fender flairs, an elaborate hood, headlight covers, rear fender scoops and a scoop for the rear axle cooler. Unfortunately, only 5 grand Sports were build before Duntov was spanked by GM brass, WE DONT BUILD RACE CARS! GET RID OF THEM! So thats exactly what he did.
