Sr. VP of Styling, Bill Mitchell had gasoline in his veins! He borrowed one of the two chassis that Zora-Arkus Duntov built for his 57 SS Racer project and created a new body, based on the lines from the Q-Corvette concept car. (see Illustrated Corvette Series No. 10 for the Q-Corvette story). Unfortunately, Mitchell also inherited the SS Corvettes braking problems. The Stingray Racer" had moderate success and eventually was put out to pasture as a show car and later as a movie star! The Stingray Racer had a brief scene in the Elvis Presley movie called, Clambake.
